This year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup was, by any measure, the best to date.
Yet amid all the huge crowds and high-quality play, there was a group of onlookers who – for good reason – found Australia & New Zealand 2023 a little tougher to enjoy.
That same group had reluctantly dominated the pre-tournament headlines, when an epidemic of injuries – mainly dreaded ACLs – ruled out several high-profile stars.
Now, as another big year for women’s football comes into focus, we look at where some of those Women’s World Cup absentees are on their respective roads to recovery.
